Manny Ramirez’s baseball game previews from sports experts were unanimously considered him as an exceptional talent. At 38 years old, Ramirez has all but punched his ticket to Cooperstown USA. Spending eight years in Boston, Ramirez was integral in breaking the Curse of the Bambino in 2004 when he helped guide the Red Sox to their first World Series title since 1918. After the first title, things appeared to go downhill for Manny and the Red Sox, they wouldn’t win another Championship until the 2007 season. Less than a year later, after an altercation with a teammate and unhappy about his contract, Manny Ramirez was shipped out of Boston and heading the Los Angeles Dodgers. Two and a half years later, Ramirez is joining his third team, as he was picked up off waivers by the Chicago White Sox. Winning one World Series is impressive, but winning two has proven to cause more trouble than optimism for the legendary Ramirez. In sports, fans are given these false perceptions by players of their home teams in which they believe the players are going for the league championship rather than a big contract. With Manny Ramirez, he has proven to the world that whether he wins a title or not is second to getting paid. What’s more, although he has put up great numbers in the past, Ramirez talent has been on a constant downslide as his contracts get higher and higher. In the early part of the decade, there was no player you would have rather had on your team than Ramirez because of his talent. Now with the migraine he’s cause for two and potentially a third franchise in Chicago, Manny Ramirez is more of a migraine than a superstar. |
