The MLB time is now for the Washington Nationals to open their wallets and make a big for one or two of the top free agents that are out there on the open market this winter, but there has to concern over whether or not the franchise made that move too soon. The Nationals made the decision to bring in Jason Werth with a seven-year, $126 million contract a year ago, and he rewarded them with .232 batting average, just 20 home runs and 58 RBI. While Werth still has the time to turn things around and prove that he can be an effective player, fans in Washington will have to wonder if they money spent on him would have been better spent one year later with so many key free agents out there.

The Nationals need help on both pay head sides of the ball, but particularly in their rotation where they may be relying too heavily on a healthy Stephen Strasburg. Washington cannot afford to overpay another player that is expecting a big contract so far, such as CJ Wilson, but if they can find a quality arm elsewhere then it could be worth the money. Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols are two names that Nationals’ fans would love to hear, and the time is now for the Nationals to open their wallets and make a splash. Whether or not they have the money is another question altogether, but if they do then they shouldn’t waste the chance to make a sports betting splash.
